While the Bavarian exhibition "Ois anders" is dedicated to completed major projects in Bavaria, the film "Großbaustelle Wasser - unterwegs im Grabfeld" sheds light on a current problem and a possible new, comprehensive infrastructure project. The 30-minute film by Martin Weinhart is part of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation's "Under Our Skies" series and was produced in 2024.
Grabfeld in Lower Franconia is one of the driest areas in Bavaria. The reason for this is its geographical location. The ongoing climate change is exacerbating the situation in the Bavarian-Thuringian border region. A water pipeline is to connect the drinking water supply across Bavaria from Lake Constance to Lower Franconia and thus provide a remedy. The film accompanying the Bavarian exhibition portrays the people in the Grabfeld region who take care of water in planning and practical terms and those who are particularly affected by the water shortage. Politics, business, environmental associations and local people discuss a Bavaria-wide project worth billions that will take decades to plan and implement. But no matter which path is taken, it is clear to almost everyone that action must be taken to deal with climate change in the Grabfeld. The major water construction site will keep the Free State busy for decades to come.
You can watch the film on the big screen until December 29, 2024 in the Donausaal at the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte in Regensburg. The offer is free of charge.
Please note: Due to other events in the Donausaal, the film cannot be shown on certain days.
