Tradition and progress - a challenge for every ruler in the 19th century. In the Bavarian State Exhibition, which will be presented at the House of Bavarian History in Regensburg from May 10 to November 9, 2025, we travel back to the Kingdom of Bavaria. King Ludwig I ascended the throne there 200 years ago - a ruler with contradictions in a time of upheaval that was also shaped by him.
Experience the changing Bavaria of Ludwig I. From newly revived customs and traditions to industrialization, there is a lot on offer. Ludwig struggles through a politically challenging time. In the end, the question is: who ultimately has more power - the king or the people? Could Ludwig I really have been Bavaria's greatest king?
The Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte is bringing a Bavarian cultural asset to the museum: playing cards from Bavaria and card playing itself. The exhibition uses historically significant exhibits to show the development of Bavarian playing cards from their beginnings in the 14th century to the present day.
from May 31, 2025 to April 19, 2026
From July 25 in the museum foyer in Eschergasse, admission is free!
8,000 postcards of the Bavarian Forest, collected over three generations, in the archive of the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte since 2023: the photo exhibition in the Eschergasse foyer of the museum presents almost 50 images. At the center: the Waidler themselves, framed by views of the town.
