How Bavaria became a free state and what makes it special
This is the subject of the museum's permanent exhibition, which traces Bavaria's path to becoming a modern state. Covering an area of 2,500 m², Bavarian history is presented in an exciting and multimedia-based way using 1,000 exhibits, spanning nine generations from 1800 to the present day. Many personal mementos from citizens show not only the “big” stories but also the “small” ones.
All information about the permanent exhibition can be found here
“Stories from the Bavarian Forest II”
From November 15, 2025, to June 14, 2026, in the foyer of the House of Bavarian History in Regensburg.
Let yourself be enchanted by the forest atmosphere in the foyer, together with stories, films, and songs about mountains, Christmas, winter, the icy “Bohemian wind,” and the Holy Night.
A special kind of historical excursion that looks beyond the clichés about the Bavarian Forest: the forest committed to sustainability, closely linked to the Danube region and South Bohemia, a victim of secularization, at the mercy of bad politics, yet a boom region around 1900.
Admission to the exhibition is free!

Bushaltepunkt in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Museum
Bus stop in the immediate vicinity of the museum
The “Schwanenplatz” bus stop for coaches, where guests can get on and off comfortably and safely. The museum is about a 2-minute walk away. The bus stop can only be accessed from the south via Adolph-Kolping-Straße..
Free coach parking
Available, but not directly at the museum. Unfortunately, the dense development in the city center does not allow for this. However, the free bus parking lot on Bäckergasse and the Donauarena bus parking lot (also free) are available without restriction. The journey to the bus parking lots takes about 15 minutes from the Schwanenplatz bus stop via the Iron Bridge and Wöhrdstraße.
All information on free bus parking can be found here.
A nice alternative
The bus terminal for coaches “Am Protzenweiher” in Stadtamhof (close to the Bäckergasse bus parking lot) offers guests a wonderful walk across the Stone Bridge and along the Danube to the House of Bavarian History.
