8,000 picture postcards of the Bavarian Forest, collected over three generations, in the archive of the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte since 2023:
The photo exhibition in the Eschergasse foyer of the museum presents just under 50 images.
At the center: the Waidler themselves, framed by local views.
Mushroom pickers and tree planters, glass grinders and wedding loaders, seamstresses and nuns, Santa Clauses and dandies - they were all immortalized on postcards and shape the image of the Bavarian Forest.
The collectors of the postcards shown were writers and editors - not archivists. The cards and photos were not properly recorded, as the previous owners knew what was depicted. The exhibition takes a closer look at this collection.
