Arts and Crafts II

Eine The goldsmiths and silversmiths of Nuremberg, and above all of Augsburg, occupied a special position. Their brilliant work enjoyed international fame during the 16th and 17th centuries.

Traditionally, Franconia leads Germany in toy production. The range of products extends from toy cars to dolls and construction sets.

The craft businesses are still the second-largest employers in Bavaria even today. A qualified education and a master's certificate can be obtained in 94 different craft trades.

Bavaria's economy also received new impetus from the refugees who arrived after World War II. Numerous new company start-ups brought industrial areas and jobs to Bavaria, which until then had had a predominantly agricultural infrastructure. New products such as glassware from Gablonz, or new industries such as stocking production from Silesia, expanded the range still further.
