Preservation and Upkeep of Cultural Artefacts

Bavaria contains around 110,000 sacred and profane structures that are listed as protected monuments. The State Office for the Preservation of Public Monuments is responsible for their upkeep, as is the Palace Department.

Over 1,100 museums all over the state, some of them state-run, collect and document the Bavarian cultural heritage. The most important are the Bavarian National Museum, the Old and the New Pinakothek in Munich, and the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg.

Further collection centres are the state libraries and the state archives. The Deutsche Museum in Munich collects masterpieces of technology.
