Waldsassen
Tirschenreuth (Oberpfalz)

In Waldsassen, there are two memorials for the victims of war. The older one, the war memorial for the fallen soldiers of World War I (inaugurated on the 13th of august 1922) - a fountain with a square column in the center, which has a statue on top of it - is situated next to the basilica, on Basilikaplatz. On three of the four surfaces, the names of all fallen soldiers, including those of Ernst Bloch and Friedrich Weinberger, are listed. The inscriptions of the memorial that was changed in 1985, and that is surrounded by trees, are hardly readable. 50 meters away from this monument, to the left of the basilica, there is a second monument - inaugurated on the 19th of november 1961 - for the fallen soldiers of the last three wars. On an obelisc with a bowl of fire on top of it, you will find the following inscription:

Behind this commemorative stone, there is a wall which has the inscription: UNSEREN TOTEN (to our dead) on its left side. To the left, there is a sculpture of a sitting boy.
