Mönchsroth

In Mönchsroth, the memorial for the fallen soldiers of World War I is situated in the choireroom of the cloister church, the former Benedictine abbey of St.Peter and Paul.

It was created by the painting priest Georg Bickel (1862–1924). It shows part of a copy of a painting by Wilhelm von Kaulbach, "Die Zerstörung Jerusalems" (The destruction of Jerusalem). To the left and the right of the painting, the names of the 80 members of the community who died in World War I, are listed. On the left (in alphabetical order) the 43 names of the fallen citizens of Mönchsroth, on the right, the names of other communities, that belong to the congregation. The last two names (leaving the alphabetic order) are those of the Jewish members of the community of Mönchsroth:
