Memmelsdorf

In Memmelsdorf (today part of Untermerzbach), there is a war memorial (consisting of several parts) for the fallen soldiers of both World Wars, in the center of the village, infront of the church. On the commemorative stone, on top of which is an Iron Cross, below the inscription:

DEN HELDEN DER GROSSEN ZEIT

(to the heroes of a great time)

and military symbols, you will find the sentence: VERGISS, MEIN VOLK, DIE TREUEN TOTEN NICHT (my people, don't forget the loyal dead). On the back of the monument, you have the dedication:

IHREN IM WELTKRIEG 1914 – 1918 GEFALLENEN SOEHNEN IN TREUER ERINNERUNG UND DANKBARKEIT GEWIDMET VON DER GEMEINDE MEMMELSDORF UND SETZELSDORF

(in true memory of their sons who died in action in the World War 1914-1918, dedicated by the communities of Memmelsdorf and Setzelsdorf)

On both sides of the monument, the names of the fallen and missing soldiers are listed, among them the names of the following Jewish-German soldiers:
