Leutershausen
Ansbach (Mittelfranken)

A war memorial for the fallen soldiers of both World wars is to be found infront of the Hauptschule, next to a bridge over the Bahnhofstraße: a round area with a monument in the center is boardered by a semi-circular wall. On that wall, there are arches, above which the following inscription can be read: EUER OPFER + UNSER LEBEN (your sacrifice + our life). To the left of the arches, four commemorative plaques for the fallen soldiers of Word War II have been put up, to the left, two plaques for the victims of World War I. Among those (on the left plaque), you will find the names of two Jewish soldiers:

Ansbacher Selmar 9.6.1914

on the right plaque

Friedmann Benno 1916

was added.

The square monument in the center of the memorial complex is dedicated to the fallen soldiers of World War I. On the front, below an Iron Cross that is boardered by two angels and the date of 1914 and 1918, there is the figure of a soldier. A ribbon with the text: UNSEREN IM WELTKRIEGE GEFALLENEN HELDEN AUS DANKBARKEIT ERRICHTET (to our heroes, who died in the World War, erected in grateful memory) stretches over the four plaques. On the left side, below the inscription: Leutershausen 1918, the names of the fallen soldiers are commemorated, among them:

Friedmann Benno U.O. 13. R.I.R. Rumä.

On the right side, below the inscription: Leutershausen 1914 , among many comrades, you will find:

Ansbacher Selm. E.Gef. 14. I.R. 9.IX.

A further memorial for the fallen soldiers of World War I is to be found at the edge of the village, behind the sporting-grounds, next to the tennis-courts, to the right of the road leading to Wiedersbach/Ansbach. Below a steel helmet, a commemorative plaque with the inscription: Unseren gefallenen Helden 1914 im Weltkrieg 1918 (to our heroes, who died in the World War 1914-18) has been put up. On this plaque, the names of the fallen soldiers are listed, among them the Jewish-German soldier:
