The war memorial in Kronach (erected
in 1935) is situated below the "Festung Rosenberg" (on the road from the
upper town to the "Festung" ). Stairs
lead up to the memorial area, the front part of which consists of a coffin
with the date 1914 and 1918 ,the coat of arms of the town and
the dedication: Die Stadt Kronach Ihren Helden (the town of Kronach
for its heroes).
On the wall behind the coffin, you will see a
large square area, on which small metal plaques have been put up, that give
the rank, name and the date of death of the fallens soldiers. Among the
victims of the war you will fiind the two Jewish-German soldiers:

und
INF. ROSSMANN SIGM. 20.7.1917.
To the right of the comemmorative plaque -
below a sculpture (the head of a soldier) - you will find the following
inscription:
Wo immer ihr ruht Söhne der
Heimat
Vergessen seid ihr nicht Ihr lebt fort in unseren Herzen
(whereever you rest, sons of our country -you
are not forgotten-you live on in our hearts)
To the left of the commemorative plaque -
also below a soldier's head - you can read the inscription:
532 Gefallene und Vermißte
betrauert als Opfer des
zweiten Weltkrieges 1939–45
die dankbare Stadt Kronach
(the town of Kronach grieves for 532 victims
