Markt Fischbach
Augsburg (Schwaben)

 

The war memorial of the Jewish congregation of Fischach, that was rescued from the synagogue, is now to be found in the Tahara-house on the Jewish cemetery. On a commemorative plaque, the following inscription can be read (below the emblem of a steel helmet): Dem Andenken der aus unserer Gemeinde Ausgezogenen im Kriege 1914–18 Gebliebenen gewidmet (dedicated in memory of the people from our community, who went to war 1914-1918 and never returned). The names and further information of the victims of the war follow:

Only a few metres away, a monument was erected after 1945 (a block of granite). On the front, the victims of the nazi-regime are commemorated with the following inscription (in metal letters):

DEN OPFERN DER RASSENVERFOLGUNG GEWEIHT 1933 1945
DEN TOTEN ZUM GEDENKEN
DEN LEBENDEN ZUR MAHNUNG

(dedicated to the victims of racial persecution 1933 1945 / commemorating the dead / as a reminder to the living)

On one of the gravestones, below the Hebrew inscription, you will find the German text:

Hier ruht unser treusorgender Gatte u. Vater
Herr Abraham Bravmann
Kriegsteilnehmer 1914–1918
geb. 6.März 1876, gest. 14. Juni 1932

(here lies our caring husband and father A.B., combatant 1914-1918....)

The public war memorial for the fallen soldiers of both World Wars is to be found on the crossing of Buschelberg- und Kölberbergstraße, next to the Waldfriedhof. Below the sculptures of two soldiers, you will find the following inscription:

ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DIE GEFALLENEN IM WELTENKAMPFE 1914 – 1918 ERRICHTET VON DER GEMEINDE FISCHACH 1914 – 1918 GEFALLENE DER MARKTGEMEINDE FISCHACH 1939 – 1945

(in memory of the fallen soldiers of the world war 1914-1918 / erected by the community of Fischach 1914-1918 / fallen soldiers from Fischach 1939-1945)
