On the wall next to the entrance of the Jewish cemetery of Cham, until 1995, three commemorative plaques for the dead of the Jewish congregation of Cham had been built in. Only two are left. The third was put on to a grave (that of Fanny Hahn s.A.) next to the wall. The inscriptions on the plaques are as follows:

Im Dienste des Vaterlandes starb in Nordfrankreich (Comines) auf dem Felde der Ehre am 16. November 1914

(He died on the 16th of november 1914, serving his country on the fields of honour in Northern France, Comines)

Max Kirschner

geb. am 28. Juni 1888 ein Sohn unserer isr. Kultusgemeinde Cham Sein Andenken lebt ruhmvoll bei uns weiter

(born on the 28th of june 1888, a son of our Jewish congregation in Cham. He will always be remembered ).

and

Im Dienste des Vaterlandes starb (verm.) in Frankreich auf dem Felde der Ehre, bei Arras, am 7. Mai 1917

(He died (miss.) serving his country on the fields of honour at Arras, in France, on the 7th of may 1917)

Arnold Schwarz

Sein Andenken lebt ruhmvoll bei uns weiter Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Cham

(He will always be remembered by the Jewish congregation of Cham)

On the third plaque, beside the wall, you will find the following inscription:

Im Dienste des Vaterlandes starb in Frankreich auf dem Felde der Ehre am 14. Sept. 1914

(He died on the 14th of november 1914, serving his country on the fields of honour in France)

Adolf Grünhut

geb. am 25. Nov. 1886 ein Sohn unserer isr. Kultusgemeinde Cham Sein Andenken lebt ruhmvoll bei uns weiter

(born on the 25th of november 1886, a son of our Jewish congregation in Cham. He will always be remembered)

In the municipal park, you will find the local war memorial - the "Kriegergedächtnisbrunnen" (war memorial fountain). It was financed by donations, and put up on the market square of the town in 1931. It was removed 1952 and since 1955 has found its new place near the upper entrance of the municipal park. In the center of the fountain there is a statue of St.George. On the square column below it, the date of 1914-1918 is engraved to the left and 1939-1945 to the right. On the front part you find the inscription: UNSEREN KRIEGSTOTEN On the upper part of the surround of the fountain, the names of all the fallen soldiers from Cham are commemorated, among them the Jewish-German soldiers:

The fountain is surrounded by a wall, that has the following inscriptions:

(The World War 1939-1945 demanded a high toll of lives from the citizens of this town. 463 fallen and missing soldiers, 63 died through the bombs of the 18th of april).
