Buttenwiesen

In Buttenwiesen, the war memorial for the fallen and missing soldiers of the two World Wars is situated on the market square, in the center of town. On an octagonal obelisk, that has a statue on its top, you will find the inscription: Ihren im Weltkrieg 1914 – 1918 gefallenen Helden die dankbare Gemeinde(to our heroes who were killed in action in the World War 1914-1918). Below that, the name, date and place of death of all fallen soldiers of Buttenwiesen are commemorated. Among them we will find the following information about three fallen Jewish soldiers from Buttenwiesen:

In the entrance hall of the newly built townhall of Buttenwiesen, Marktplatz 4, below the plaques with the ten commandments that were saved from the former synagogue, we will find a commemorative plaque of copper (also from the synagogue), that had been donated in memory of the three fallen soldiers, by the now extinct Jewish congregation of Buttenwiesen. On the plaque you find the following inscription:
