Bad Neustadt a.d.Saale
Rhön-Grabfeld (Unterfranken)
In Bad Neustadt/Saale there is a commemorative plaque for the fallen soldiers of World War I at the mortuary of the "Stadtfriedhof" (entrance Goethe-Straße) and a further memorial for the dead of World War II. Below the inscription:DIE GEFALLENEN HELDEN DER STADT NEUSTADT a/S (To the fallen heroes of the town of Neustadt a/S), the names of many fallen soldiers are to be discovered, among them the names of the Jewish fallen combatants:

REIS NORBERT GEF. 21. MÄRZ 1918

FRANK LUDWIG GEF. 2. FEBR. 1919

A memorial for the combatants and fallen soldiers of the war in 1870/71 is to be found in the area between the city wall (near the "Altes Realgymansium") and the actual "Realgymnasium". It is well possible that Jews are among the listed names - but up to now it hasn't been proved.

On the Jewish cemetery in the southern part of the "Gartenstadt" you will find the following inscription on the gravestone of Frau Linda Plaut s.A.:

P N RUHESTÄTTE MEINER LIEBEN GATTIN. UNSERER LIEBEN MUTTER FRAU LINDA PLAUT GEB. BLUM GEB. 4. JULI 1859. GEST. 13. MÄRZ 1930.

(P N Here lies my dear wife our dear mother FRAU LINDA PLAUT née BLUM. Born on the 4th of july 1859. Died on the 13th of march 1930).

DAVID PLAUT GEB. 1. JUNI 1856 GEST. 13. FEBR. 1940

Most probably a victim of the Third Reich.

A third plaque commemorates the son, who gave his life for Germany as a soldier, with the following text:

DEM ANDENKEN UNSERES LIEBEN SOHNES UND BRUDERS HERRN LEO PLAUT EINJ. KRIEGSFREIW. 9. BAYR. INF. RGT.GEB. 8. DEZ. 1894. GEFALLEN FÜR DAS VATERLAND 25. OKT. 1915 BEI LA SASSE TNZBH
