In the town of Aub, three
memorials bear witness of the willingness to sacrifice of
Jewish-German soldiers:
On Uffenheimerstraße, to the
right of the entrance of the local cemetery, there is a war
memorial for the combatants and fallen soldiers of the war
in 1870/71. Below a cuirassier's helmet that is decorated
with canons and canonballs, the Iron Cross and date of
1870/71 and the inscription: Die Stadt Aub ihren
Kriegsveteranen (The town of Aub, to their veterans),
the names of the soldiers are listed, among them the Jewish
combatants:
Meier
Oppenheimer
and
Veit Oppenheimer
Only a few metres further on, also on Uffenheimer Straße,
the second memorial for the fallen soldiers of World War I
was erected. In the middle of the complex, a square column
was erected, on which, below the inscription: Die Stadt
Aub ihren Heldensöhnen der Jahre 1914 – 1918 (The town
of Aub, to their sons and heroes of the years 1914-1918),
the names of the fallen soldiers are immortalized, among
them Jewish-German soldiers
