Aschaffenburg
(Unterfranken)
On the Jewish cemetery (which forms a part of the "Altstadtfriedhof of Aschaffenburg") in the towncenter, to the right of the entrance, you will find a memorial for the fallen Jewish-German soldiers, that has the following inscription below the star of David: (The memorial used to be in the synagogue that was destroyed in 1938, belonging to the Jewish congregation of Aschaffenburg, s.A.)

On the cemetery you can find a gravestone for a fallen soldier, who had died on the battlefield, but was buried here:

Hier ruht in Frieden unser lieber, guter Sohn und Bruder

erlittener Verwundungen als Soldat im k.b. 17. Inf. Regt.

aschaffenburg-4.jpg (37644 Byte) On the cemetery, you will find the grave of Dr.Emil Goldschmidt, who fell in 1918. Apparently information and military symbols have been removed. Today only this inscription can be seen: Dr. Emil Goldschmidt 1.4.1888 - 31.3.1918

An inscription on one of the graves shows the patriotic attitude of Bavarian Jews in Aschaffenburg:

Hier ruht unser geliebter Gatte und Vater Herr Simon Worms Inhaber d. Feldzugzeichen 1870-71 geb. 10. Okt. 1945, gest. 20. Janr. 1909
