Josef Krumbachner (born 1919) 1930s Member of the Catholic Youth Movement, comes into conflict with Nazi ideology 1939 Reichsarbeitsdienst, military service 1944 Captured and taken prisoner during the Allied landings in Normandy 1944–1946 POW in Como, Mississippi. Impressed by the humane treatment of POWs by the Americans, and appalled at the amount of influential Nazis in the camp. Volunteers to work in a cigarette factory 1946 Returns to Germany, begins his studies, and becomes a priest |
