Workers and Entrepreneurs

Most emigrants could improve their situation in America. Some came with nothing and made a fortune, some came with some wealth and could multiply their capital.

A lot of small-scale existenses arose. The immigrants founded farms, stores, workshops, breweries or worked as doctors, pharmacists or lawyers.

But there were lot of emigrants too who had to work under very hard conditions for their livelihood, infamous for example were the slaughterhouses of chicago. And a lot ended up in misery.
